Encana substation site construction and installation

Allteck was engaged by Encana to provide services as prime contractor for the construction of the substation that services the Saturn Sister Phase 1 Compressor Station located 25 km northwest of Dawson Creek, BC. Allteck was responsible for complete construction including all civil, electrical, protection, and control. Power to the substation is provided by a 138kV transmission line that is owned by Allteck’s parent company Quanta Services. Allteck provides on-going operation and maintenance of both the substation and the transmission line.

The Challenges

Allteck was required to coordinate with multiple stakeholders, including Encana, Allteck’s subcontractors, and other trades providing services at the active gas field. In addition, Allteck was required to develop specific safety procedures for H2S and other hazards related to gas. Subsurface conditions created challenges for access as the clay soil required the use of access mats and geotextiles to minimize soil pressure.
