Cranbrook 60kV Energized Rebuild and Reconductor

Replace structures and reconductor, 4.6km of 60kV transmission line without an outage on the circuit. 90% of the structures required upgrading including tangents, 90 degree deadends and long span crossings. The conductor was also upgraded to increase capacity.

The Challenges:

The 60kv transmission  and the  12kv underbuild distribution circuits both had to remain energized during work so there would be no disruption to the community or businesses in the area

This was the first time 60kV energized reconductoring   was successfully completed in  in  Canada and the first time Transmission Energized stringing took place on the BC Hydro system.

Specialized Work Methods:

The linemaster Robotic arm played a critical role along with unique liveline stringing techniques created specifically for this project to provide the limits of approach required to install the new structures and conductor in an energized state
