Project Controls Specialist

Job Summary

Project Controls Specialists play an important role in keeping projects/unit-based work organized and on track.  Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, you will work closely with Project Managers on scheduling, budgeting, financial setup, progressing and reporting. This position requires exceptional communicational, organizational, and multi-tasking skills, as well as the ability to perform efficiently in a team-oriented environment. The Project Management Office (PMO) team will offer you great opportunities for professional growth and development.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Project Manager (PM) to break down the estimate to develop project WBS and controlled project budget
  • Assist the PM in budgeting, planning, scheduling, progressing, and forecasting
  • Prepare resource loaded schedules during the proposal stage in a variety of software (including Primavera P6 and MS Project) at detailed levels
  • Monitor, maintain, control, modify, and update the schedule through various stages of the project
  • Forecast the impacts on schedule of proposed changes
  • Upload time entries on a daily/weekly basis
  • Monitor, update, and setup project progress tracking
  • Prepare internal manhour/cost reports using Earned Value Method for the PM and/or executive management on a weekly/monthly basis
  • Prepare monthly labour and cost reports to assist the engineering team in preparation of monthly invoices
  • Prepare weekly/monthly cash flow estimations to support financial projections
  • Assist other departments and perform other related duties as directed
  • Provide high quality project support while successfully handling multiple deadline-driven tasks

Skills & Abilities

  • Sound knowledge of schedule systems, principles and practices is preferred
  • Working knowledge of computer scheduling programs (i.e. Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Tilos) is beneficial
  • Must have strong MS Excel skills
  • Familiarity with estimating software such as Hard Dollar (HD), Heavy Bid, Bid 2 Win (B2W), etc. is considered an asset
  • Experience with CRM software such as Salesforce would be advantageous
  • Data base administration/management skills is also considered an asset
  • Understanding of Earned Value method, project estimating / budgeting, and project forecasting
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills, verbal/written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills

Education, Training & Experience

Education and experience requirements include a relevant degree plus 3 or more years working in a construction/engineering setting with a focus on project controls, project scheduling or project coordination.  Equivalent combinations of training and/or related experience will be considered.
